On a small lot, hardscape has to work harder. There is no room for a patio that misses the mark or a walkway that cuts the yard in half, so every square foot gets planned: where the table goes, where the grill lives, how people get from the house to the gate without crossing the lawn. Blackland and red clay still move under all of it, swelling in wet seasons and shrinking in dry ones, which makes the unglamorous base and drainage work more important here than anywhere. We build outdoor spaces that make small yards feel bigger, not busier.

Patios and walkways in Edgewood
We build patios in concrete, pavers, and natural stone, sized and shaped around how you actually use the yard: room for a table, a fire, a grill, and the traffic that comes with family life. On tight lots, shape matters as much as size: a well-proportioned patio with clean edges makes a small back yard feel intentional. Walkways connect the patio to the house, the drive, and the gate so people stop wearing paths through the grass. Under all of it goes compacted, drained base work engineered for heavy clay subgrade.
Retaining walls and grade work
Sloped lots are common around Edgewood, and water always wins against a slope that is not managed. Retaining walls hold grade where it needs holding, turn a hillside into usable flat space, and stop soil from washing toward foundations and drives. On small lots, a modest wall often unlocks the only usable outdoor space the property has. We build timber, block, and stone walls with drainage designed in, because a wall without drainage is a wall with a countdown on it.
Outdoor living spaces
Edgewood’s long seasons are made for outdoor living, and we build the pieces that make people stay outside: fire pits and fireplaces, seating walls, pergolas and shade structures, and outdoor kitchens where the property supports them. On small lots, these features often do double duty, a seating wall that is also the retaining wall, a pergola that shades the only patio, and we design with that in mind.
Water features and lighting
Fountains, ponds, and small recirculating features add sound and movement that make a space feel finished, and low-voltage lighting doubles the hours you get out of the yard: path lights for safety, uplights that turn trees and walls into features, and patio lighting that keeps gatherings going past sunset. On small lots, good lighting also makes the yard feel larger after dark, and we design systems that can be added to later instead of replaced.
Commercial hardscape in Edgewood
Small commercial properties and the churches that anchor the town use hardscape for entries, courtyards, and gathering spaces. Installs are quoted for durability and low maintenance, and they can be scheduled alongside a property contract.
Building for East Texas ground
Edgewood’s blackland swells and shrinks with the weather. We build with expansion joints, the right setting methods for each material, and drainage that moves water away from the work instead of under it. Nobody photographs this part, and it is exactly what decides how the space looks a decade on.
