Alba landscapes get to think bigger. With more ground around the house, a landscape here is not just foundation beds; it is the drive approach, the view from the porch, the windbreak on the west side, and the transition between the mowed area and everything beyond it. Acid sandy soil under the pines still sets the rules for what will grow, and the pine and hardwood stands set the tone. The landscapes that thrive here are designed for the space and the ground together, and that is how we design in Alba.

The design process in Alba
Design starts with a walk of the property: how the light moves through the canopy, where water goes when it rains, what the soil is doing, and how the land gets used. On working properties, that walk includes the practical pieces: where the drive lands, what the shop and outbuildings need around them, and which existing trees are assets worth designing around.
The plan that follows is practical: bed shapes for the working property, selections for each exposure, sizes at maturity, and materials for mulch, edging, and any hardscape ties. You see it before anything is ordered.
Installation that lasts in Wood County
Installation is where landscapes succeed or fail. Beds get cut clean, acid soil gets amended, and plants go in at the right depth and spacing for their mature size. Mulch goes down to hold moisture without smothering roots. We install trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses, and seasonal color chosen to handle Alba heat, humidity, acid ground, and the occasional hard freeze: hollies, magnolias, yaupon, native selections, and acid-tolerant species that fit the piney woods.
Windbreaks, screening, and rural-residential design
On Alba’s working properties, the plantings that matter most are often the big ones: windbreaks that soften west sun and winter wind, screens that block the road view, and tree groupings that frame the house from the drive. These get their own discipline: right species for the purpose, planted where they will not crowd what comes later, spaced to look intentional. We build them to mature into the property.
Erosion and drainage planting
Alba’s sandy ground lets rain through fast, and what it does not soak in has to go somewhere. We address drainage with grading, ground covers, and plantings that hold soil in place, practical work that protects the property while it looks good doing it.
Church and commercial landscapes
Church grounds and the small commercial lots along Alba’s main route use landscape design for entries, courtyards, and seasonal color rotations. Commercial installs are quoted for durability and low maintenance, and they can be folded into a property contract.
After the install
The first season decides how a working property’s landscaping turns out. We set watering schedules, and clients can pair installation with maintenance so the same crew that built the beds keeps them.
