Emory landscapes are lake-country landscapes, and the plants have to prove it. Acid sandy soil under the pine stands will burn anything that wants sweet ground, deep shade will starve anything that wants full sun, and needle litter will bury beds that were not planned for it. The reward is that acid soil grows things other East Texas towns only wish they could: hydrangeas, azaleas, and dogwoods do beautifully here when they are placed and planted right. The landscapes that thrive in Emory are built for the soil and the shade, and that is how we design them.

The design process in Emory
Design starts with a walk of the property: how the light moves through the canopy, where water goes when it rains, what the soil is doing, and how the property gets used. On weekend and lake-area properties, the walk includes a practical question: what will this landscape need while nobody is here? The answer shapes everything from plant selection to irrigation.
The plan is written for lake-country ground: bed shapes, selections for each exposure, sizes at maturity, and materials for mulch, edging, and hardscape connections. You approve it before we order.
Installation that lasts under canopy
Installation is where landscapes succeed or fail. Beds get cut clean, acid soil gets amended, and plants go in at the right depth and spacing for their mature size. Mulch goes down to hold moisture without smothering roots. We install trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses, and shade perennials chosen to handle Emory’s woodland light, humidity, and soil: hydrangeas, azaleas, hollies, magnolias, yaupon, ferns, and native selections that look at home in the pines.
Privacy plantings and screening
Screening is a common request here, from a neighbor, a road, or a rental next door. Privacy plantings are their own discipline: evergreen or dense enough to screen year round, fast enough to matter, and placed so they do not crowd the fence line or foundation when they mature. We build screens that look like a landscape, not a hedge wall.
Erosion and drainage planting
Lake-country sand sheds water quickly, and runoff has to be directed rather than fought. We solve it with grading, ground covers, and plantings that knit the soil, work that protects the property and looks intentional doing it.
Commercial and hospitality landscapes
Small commercial properties, lodges, and rental cabins use landscape design for entries, courtyards, and seasonal color rotations that hold up to guest traffic. Commercial installs are quoted for durability and low maintenance, and they can be folded into your property contract.
After the install
Lake-country plantings need their first season handled for acid ground. We set the watering schedule, and you can pair the install with maintenance so one crew carries it through establishment.
